The French Institute of Tel-Aviv is inaugurating a new exhibition this Thursday, June 20, which highlights the work of Aimé Maeght (1906-1981). Entitled "Maeght in full light", Gali Elbaz's exhibition notably presents original lithographs from Maeght editions. Some of them were created by Chagall, Miro, Bram Van Velde and Léger in limited editions while others were produced for the prestigious magazine Derrière le Miroir .
Aimé Maeght, engraver, lithographer, gallery owner and film producer, is one of the most important art dealers of the 20th century but he was above all a patron, friend of Bonnard, Matisse, Miro, Braque, Léger, Chagall, Calder and Giacometti . He also created the Maeght Foundation, dedicated to modern and contemporary art of the 20th century.
In addition, Maeght printed most of the engravings by Miró, Tàpies, Calder and Chillida. With 12,000 titles published, Maeght is one of the largest publishers of lithographs and engravings in the world.
The exhibition is on view from June 20 to August 29 at the French Institute of Tel-Aviv, 7 boulevard Rothschild. The opening will take place Thursday June 20 at 7:30 p.m.
